Set aside for a moment the fact that this man has written to me before — not recently, but maybe in my “last round” of match dating. I told him “no” then, too.
Replied:
Hey there — I’m not your girl, but […]

Toddler Haiku (or is that KuHai?)
2 Comments Published by Allison July 6th, 2006 in Amuse Me, Annoy Me, Motherhood(Cross-posted from MM. Groan away.)
Update: I’m embarassed to admit it took me two days to realize I’d written all of this BACKWARD structurally — 7/5/7 instead of 5/7/5. Does that make it KuHai?
Back in my room — woe is me!
My 3am offense?
An obstacle course is mom.
Sharp toes dig into her thighs.
Clip, clip! Tomorrow.
She’s […]

Why is it that…
Potting soil is sold in bags measured in cubic feet,
the instructions on said potting soil tells what you need for various pots in quarts, and
there is absolutely no conversion factor on the bag…anywhere?

Burned-out trash and her bastard offspring

Damn, I think I need to form a band just so I can use that name. I’d better get right on it teaching Maya guitar. Or maybe she could be the drummer.
Via Feministe, this suggestion made me shake my head and laugh (something I do more every day, it would seem):
Is there […]

Someone’s been stealing my bandwidth, grrr!
Maya’s Meanderings is down, and I’m not sure how long it will take for it to come back up. My host will be available later today, and will help me address the issues then. It would appear that someone with a busy website *really* likes my background images […]

Comments will now require registration — I’ll give you three guesses why, and the first two guesses don’t count. Once you’ve registered, you should be able to comment freely.

…that at nearly-35, I still can’t seem to hold a conversation with my father about our relationship and the boundaries that are/aren’t there?
Grrrrrrr.
When I give any indication that a question (or suggestion, or instruction) is out of line, the response seems to be for him to think that I don’t want my parents involved in […]

Prey on the Weak (minded)
3 Comments Published by Allison March 22nd, 2006 in Spirituality & Religion, Annoy Me, CultureA new version of the Nigerian email fraud seems to have developed. As I stopped into my Gmail Spam box to delete the ickiness within, I saw this:
From: HELLEN ADAUM BABA

Subject: Dear brethen/sisters in the lord,
Dear brethen/sisters in the lord,
Greetings in the name of our lord Jesus Christ, […]

JUST FUCKING LEAVE, ALREADY!
(it’s a long story)

Encouraging? In what universe is this encouraging?
2 Comments Published by Allison October 12th, 2005 in Spirituality & Religion, Amuse Me, Annoy MeSo, I just got this email from my father:
I was searching for something and found this web site. It is something that you might find encouraging.
Love,
Dad
There was no link attached, so I wrote back. This is the link he forwarded to me. Um, what the FUCK? Why, exactly is this supposed […]

So, is anyone else as irritated as I am that the Op-Ed Columnist articles from the NYTimes now require a paid subscription? I mean, it’s not like I’ll miss Maureen Dowd *that* much, but sometimes I just want to read a good rant in the morning.
What the *&%$ are they thinking?

Not sure what’s triggered it, but I’m getting comment spam now.
From here on, the first time you comment, I will have to manually approve it. Once I know you’re a “real person,” your comments will appear right away. I’m unsure how this will affect folks who’ve commented before, but I’m guessing that I’ll […]

The battle of SAHM versus WOHM
4 Comments Published by Allison August 26th, 2005 in Annoy Me, Culture, MotherhoodHere’s the background: a gal joined a playdate group I participate in from time to time, and we discovered that we live relatively close to each other. Granted, I’m in a teeny-tiny condo, and she’s up on the hill behind Garden of the Gods in a neighborhood that is VERY high end. […]

Okay, I recorded Grey’s Anatomy tonight, and started watching it after it was done (nicer that way, so I can fwd through the commercials…god I love tivo). Anyway, 20 minutes before the show’s end, the world had to know that Peter Jennings passed away from lung cancer. The entire rest of the show […]

Days that Shook the World
4 Comments Published by Allison August 6th, 2005 in Annoy Me, Psychology, Personality, & Mental Health, PoliticsI just watched most of a documentary on the History Channel called “Days that Shook the World.” As you’d expect, this episode focused on the bombing of Hiroshima.
I’ve never spent much time thinking about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those cities were just names in a history book, and the dates were just another annoying […]
