To add to yesterday’s post that touched on fatalism, I’ve been reading Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart off-and-on as the mood strikes me (this is a habit of mine to have 3-5 books going simultaneously). Dr. Livingston says it much more succinctly than I did:

While no one can deny the role of chance (Allison adds: or God) in human affairs, it is an act of laziness to ascribe to luck (again: or God) most of what happens to us. Once again, people are reluctant to take responsibility for themselves, preferring easy excuses to difficult self-examination.

I just *happened* to open to this page. So is that chance, luck, God…or simply delicious irony?
